Can it be…, already? The shadows of our Northern summer have grown long once more. There is darkness again and brisk air through the night hours. And, even the rattling birch has begun to show tatters in its summer mantle. Our recent cold and rainy spell has served notice that our warm sunny days are numbered. Yes, there will still be barbequing and afternoons at Long Lake beach, but we are forewarned….
Ah, but right around the corner also lurks the bursting wild cranberry harvest, the felling of winter firewood, and the return of the fluffy puffy ptarmigan (oh, and kids headed off to school, yayyy)…. Of course, that means we are beginning to stick our noses into those juicy autumn spiced scents. And even (heaven forbid) some yuletide gift giving ideas are rattling around the ‘ol noggin.
To begin with, the Crafter has some stellar news! Our soaps are now available in downtown Yellowknife at Sutherland’s Drugs!! We are so excited and grateful to reach out to more of our local market. Do stop in and take a gander. They did a lovely job setting up the soap display, and they have such an awesome and eclectic selection of items for gifting and getting. It is too easy to lose yourself in there for a while.
On a non soap-related topic, the Crafter has not been squandering these temperate days. Aside from the usual soaping and domestic duties, work on the homestead (read: modular home) continued. The garage (erected last summer) was insulated and glorious walls of OSB erected. And in six days the dynamic duo of Crafter and Hairy-Half brought their death-trap deck from scary to awesome:
A few more days of work (following a camping hiatus) and here is where it stands today:
Getting there. Next there are stairs to be built and new siding to add.
The Crafter also has been back at work building some much needed storage furniture. Right now, a new loft bet for ds is underway while a tall bookcase for dd has been completed and already put to use:
The Crafter is still waiting for her 50mm lense to be repaired (that is why no new product shots lately), but managed to capture this shot of a Hyles gallii (bedstraw moth) caterpillar the kids found in the fireweed next to the house with her 18-135mm lense:
And, here is a couple of parting shots of the Crafter hard at work perfecting (haha) a different art-form during a summer camping odyssey at Reid Lake with the family:
What was that about an old dog and new tricks?
We certainly hope your summer has kept you outside and making memories. I think there still time for one more turn around the lake…. Hit it!
