The blog has been sorely neglected. Please do not take it personally, but the Crafter was in dire need of a hiatus following the fabulously busy trade show and after-orders. She was also hoping to post some pics from the show, but has yet to get it done. She will. Promise.
In the meantime, she wishes to send out thank yous and sloppy hugs to her most marvelous pal, Monika, for her tirelessly cheerful work at the show. How blessed are we to have a friend give up a weekend with the family to hang with customers and a slightly stressed friend/proprietor?!
As soon as the show wrapped up, the Crafter was busy single-parenting again while hubby traveled South. Never one to over-reach her skill level (haha) she elected to try using fondant for the first time on an ‘angry birds’ cake for ds’ 6th birthday (if you don’t know ‘angry birds’ just ask any 6 year old with access to an ipod). After 12 hours of cake making, we came to this conclusion: making marshmallow fondant is easy. Draping it on little tiny cake balls is hard.
In the end though, we feel this is another milestone we have successfully navigated. The cake was a roaring success and delicious to boot!
Fondant (wayyyyy easier than you think)
Cake balls (cake crumbs and homemade butter cream icing….oh yeah)
So many birds (and pigs), sooo much time….
The final cake
And that’s why we do it!!!
Now begins the summer construction frenzy (may as well take advantage of the midnight sun). We have already laid new carpet. Hubby and father-in-law just finished wiring the garage, so now we begin tear down and rebuild of the deck, insulating the garage, siding of the garage, house and shed, repainting the inside of the house, building more furniture, and I am hoping to repaint all the cupboards before our all-to-brief summer ends. Whew!
Never fear though. We will continue to keep you in suds and goodies galore. In fact, look for us at the Folk on the Rocks again this July!
For those of you wondering, we promise to get the new ‘Naked North’ website up and running soon. It is on the list of things to do (our very long list). Now, off to pour some more soy candles….
