The spring isolation has begun:
Yet, Yellowknifers will somehow survive 3.98/lb grapes to thrive again when the Merv Hardy Ferry begins running again sometime in May (late May if the predictions are right). Imagine, this may very well be the last time we see (and hear) the convoys of tractor trailers staging their spring sit-in of the Extra Foods and Walmart parking lots! When completed (November?), the DehCho bridge will bring an end to this quirky annual pilgrimage (and my mad dash to the grocery store to stock up on dog kibbles). Sigh.
We hope you had a pleasant and restful Easter weekend. The Crafter’s dh returned from a couple of weeks in and around Resolute Bay. So all the soaps and balms and scrubs needed to be swept from the dining and living areas to nooks and crannies elsewhere (mainly the master bedroom). (The Crafter needs more heated storage space.) The big show is now under two weeks away and things are right on schedule.
Here is a look at a few newbies:
Layers and layers of lilac. So spring.
To die for balms. Seriously, the dill is my favourite.
Midnight Sun. Wait until you see it cut!
This stuff is amazing! Total odour neutralizer (urine, necrotic tissue…), but completely body safe.
More sneaky peakies to come. So much left to do.
The Crafter also hit the kitchen (and the smoker) lately. Since the outdoor freezer is warming up (rubbermaid on the deck), the arctic char from the hubby’s fall catch needed to get smoked. Some were brined and smoked in a standard manner, but this batch was candied and took two days to smoke. But oh my word…. It was worth it!
Can you smell the alder and honey…? Mmmmmmmm.
